The Movie Magic, Stage Makup & Concept Art of Miles Teves

Miles Teves in my opinion is the Da Vinci of the modern film era. His work on several films has been so insanely iconic, yet for years I was unaware of his handiwork. He does not just have a few of my favorite movies attributed to him ether, he has a great big chunk of my favorite films on his resume. To date, there are not that many people out there, save for Industrial Light and Magic and The Stan Winston Studio doing anything remotely as high quality as the work that Teves does.

Meg Mucklebones-01I have always been a fan of movie magic since when I was a little kid watching Creepshow on the USA up all night horror marathon. One of my favorite movies as a kid was Legend. The movie just had everything that you could want out of a picture perfect fairy tale. Teves was responsible for the baddies Lord Darkness and Meg Mucklebones. They both scared me to death and I loved it. What made them so great was how evil they looked. They where not cartoony or dumbed down for a general audience (a trend that I believe is presently killing believability in film) no sir, they where real baddies. The things nightmares are made of and they made our hero's even more heroic by comparison. You hardly see this kind of evil on film anymore, but I digress.

Darkness looked like a genuine pit fiend from the 9th circle of hell. He had the hooves, red skin, exaggerated demonic facial features and most of all those massive horns. It was not only the animalistic features ether that made Darkness a perfect design for the film, it was how Teves was also able to blend this with a human form so that Darkness could still have some charisma while still retaining his  demonic presence.

Total Recall especially had some amazing effects. The entire picture was just jammed packed with stuff that was way before its time. Interview with vampire was also one of those movies that had excellent artistic guidance. This is by far the best vampire movie I have ever seen. I'm sure Miles had a bit to do with it. Just look at his concept art.

If movies are not your thing, that's fine because miles actually has illustrated some very cool books. They are titled "The Demon Hunters Handbook" "The Vampire Hunters Handbook" & "The Dragon Hunters Handbook". Each one is written by Abelard Van Helsing and fully illustrated on every page by Miles Teves. They are actually very cheep and easy to get. I highly recommend them.

Miles Teves resume is too insanely rich with content to accurately detail in this post, so instead of listing them all I will just post a link to his IMDb page. . He has helped shape a countless amount of movies visually in a way that has made these films instantly memorable. I am glad to have grown up on his movies and still live in an age where he is still creating.
